LR-HS-802 Review and details

Generality:

This tent is the little sister of the HS-801 model, with a rigid shell and side opening.

It is suitable to comfortably accommodate two adults. Its peculiarity lies in the side opening (folding) with gas and oil pistons that facilitate the opening of the rigid body, and a cantilevered part to be positioned manually. This model is more suitable for those who free camping in isolated areas or for those who go to special parking areas, since the structure of the tent exceeds the shape of the vehicle.

Its small footprint allows you to store other material on the vehicle roof.

The aerodynamic PVC shell helps to cut through the air, while protecting against atmospheric agents such as rain, snow or hail, but also against branches and blunt objects. The characteristics of PVC also make it quite flexible, a quality not to be underestimated, since if it were to be pressed (gently) against a branch, the same would restore its position after pressure, thus differentiating itself from other materials that are lighter, but also more rigid. and therefore delicate.
This does not mean, however, that you can launch yourself into a forest using your tent as a shield, as this will almost certainly be damaged !!

Materials:

The bottom of the tent is covered with a special breathable honeycomb layer, which reduces the formation of condensation.

The internal cover of the rigid body is lined with a spongy fabric, very similar to the roof of cars.

The curtain covering is made up of two types of fabrics with the same waterproofing specifications, but with different weight and thermal insulation characteristics. The outermost layer (black fabric in the photo above), which is the most exposed to the elements, is made of 420D Polyester Oxford PU 2000MM W / P, W / R. It is resistant to UV rays and is a very light-looking material that lends itself well to letting the water and humidity that are created at night slip away. In fact, you just need to shake the fabric slightly to remove the drops of moisture that are deposited on it.

The innermost layer (gray fabric in the photo above) is made up of 280G, a cotton blend polyester called PU 2000MM W / P, W / R. It too has the same technical characteristics of resistance to bad weather and UV rays as the 420D, but has a greater thickness and weight, so it filters the sun's rays much more and increases thermal insulation. Even after being subjected to heavy and continuous rain, the material did not get soaked with water and maintained its degree of impermeability in an excellent way.

If you are not on a long journey and do not need to close the tent immediately after exposure to rain, it is still recommended to dry it in the sun, thus avoiding the formation of mold. If, on the other hand, you need to close the awning immediately after exposure to the elements, you can do so, taking care to shake the fabric, to avoid water stagnation inside.

It is recommended not to expose the curtains and their components to long periods of storage with wet or damp fabrics to avoid the formation of mold.

Internal equipment:

The recycling of air inside the curtain is facilitated by the two side windows and the main entrance window. In this tent, as in some soft-cover tents, there are upper skylights, extremely useful for adjusting the brightness during the day and romantically looking at the moon at night, protected by dense and impenetrable mosquito nets and light blinds.

Inside the tent there are pockets where you can store your items and there is a minimum space for linen.

The mattress has a reduced thickness because the space available to close the curtain is less than the other models. We are studying a way to make rest more comfortable and later we will bring this improvement to the production line by developing kits to align the products previously sold.

External equipment:
The side openings of the awning are held in tension by metal poles in harmonic steel that allow the fabric to maintain the right position.

The tent is equipped with useful compartments for shoes, which allow them to be stored, protected from bad weather and animals.

The telescopic ladder is made of aluminum, it folds inside the tent and also acts as a supporting pillar for the cantilevered tent part of the vehicle. For this reason it must not be inclined more than 75 ° to favor the correct horizontal position of the steps and not to stress the telescopic structure.

Test:

The tests carried out were particularly aggressive, trying to undermine the static and dynamic components of the frame.

We performed tests in rain and strong wind and the result was certainly better than the HS-801 tent, since, being smaller, it offers less wind resistance. If placed in the right direction with respect to the wind, the rigid cover acts as a spoiler, taking on the pressure exerted by the wind on it and preventing the canvas from being a sail.

However, we remind you that, since these are raised tents, the presence of strong wind always requires a high level of attention. For this reason we recommend that you choose the place to camp well, making sure you are not too exposed to the winds and always check the weather conditions before planning your adventures. In fact, due to the unpredictability of changes in wind direction, if this were to suddenly change, the air flow would no longer be deflected by the rigid body.

The closed awning has a height of 30 cm

The external measurements of the open awning are: L 160 x P 205 x H 120 cm

 The mattress measures are: L 155 x P 196 x H 3 cm
