LR-HS-800 Review and details

Generality:

This is the most comfortable and practical rigid shell tent currently being sold by Carcamp.
It is suitable to comfortably accommodate two adults. Its peculiarity lies in the vertical opening, which is facilitated by gas and oil pistons. Its size does not exceed the vehicle silhouette of almost all cars.
The aerodynamic PVC shell helps to cut through the air, while protecting against atmospheric agents, such as rain, snow or hail, but also against branches and blunt objects. The PVC shell is also quite flexible, a quality not to be underestimated, since if it is pressed (gently) against a branch, it restores its shape when the pressure is released, thus differentiating itself from other materials which, while being lighter, are less flexible and therefore more delicate.
Obviously this does not mean that you can launch yourself into a forest using your tent as a shield, as in this case it will almost certainly be damaged !!!

Materials:

The bottom of the tent is covered with a special breathable honeycomb layer, which reduces the formation of condensation.
The fabric of which the tent is made is 280G, a cotton blend polyester called PU 2000MM (W / P, W / R) which has technical characteristics of resistance to bad weather and UV rays. Thanks to its weight and thickness, it filters the sun's rays very well, preventing them from entering the tent and increasing thermal insulation. After being subjected to rain, even strong and continuous, the material was not impregnated with water and maintained its degree of impermeability very well.
If you are not on a long journey and do not need to close the tent immediately after exposure to rain, it is still recommended to dry it in the sun, thus avoiding the formation of mold. If, on the other hand, you need to close the awning immediately after exposure to the elements, you can do so, taking care to shake the fabric, to avoid water stagnation inside.
It is recommended not to subject the curtains and their components to long periods of storage with wet or damp fabrics to avoid the formation of mold.

Internal equipment:

The ventilation on 4 sides allows for an excellent and constant air exchange.
Inside the tent there are pockets for storing personal items and there is an elastic net for storing clothes or other, thus exploiting the vertical space.
The mattress is thicker than the other tents and therefore offers better comfort. The generous internal spaces allow you to store the (soft) material in its entirety and, if desired, to install a higher or specific mattress for those with special needs.

External equipment:

For the moment, the pockets for storing shoes are not applicable to this tent, as they would not be sheltered from the elements. A good alternative is to store shoes between the tent and the roof of the car, away from water and animals.
The side openings of the awning are held in tension by metal poles in harmonic steel that allow the fabric to maintain the right position.
The telescopic aluminum ladder is removable: it attaches to the longer side of the tent and can be stored in the vehicle or inside the tent during the trip.

Test:

The tests carried out were particularly aggressive and aimed at testing the resistance of the static and dynamic components of the frame.
We ran tests in rain and wind and, as you can imagine, a non-aerodynamic 4-wall canvas tent proved not to be the ideal structure to withstand large gusts of wind. Nevertheless, even after having faced some real storms, we did not detect any problems inherent to the wind and water infiltrations. However, we remind you that, since these are raised tents, the presence of strong wind always requires a high level of attention. For this reason, we recommend that you choose the place to camp well, making sure you are not too exposed to the winds.
