- Legal Confusion: Even though the tent remains within the outline of the vehicle, it may be considered illegal camping.
- Fragmented rules: The rules change from municipality to municipality and between regions, making it difficult to understand where and how parking is permitted.
- Overnight stay at risk of fine: You can receive fines even if your tent is closed and you are not camping, since overnight stay alone can be equated to camping.

- Stalls and short stops punished: Those who travel in a roof tent for a temporary stopover often receive unjustified fines, even though they are not violating any principle of environmental respect or public order.
- Subjective interpretations: Authorities may fine without evidence of prolonged camping or stationary activity, creating inconvenience and frustration for campers and road trip enthusiasts.

- Disparity compared to campers: Campers and motorhomes, although they take up more space and are more invasive, enjoy official recognition with clear rules.
- Regulatory gaps for tents: Rooftop tents do not have similar recognition, despite being less impactful and more flexible in terms of how they can be used.
